FAQS

Here are answers to some common questions. Stay tuned for the 2024 Tech Guide!

  • Can I just regsiter for an event without signing up for the Oregon Triple Crown?

Yes, so many can just come to the Oregon Coast Gravel Epic, or Oregon Gran Fondo. Sign up on that webpage and we will see you. Remember you can always sign up after your event for the Ala Cart Pass and join the OTC anytime while space exists through July 1st.

Only Oregon Triple Crowners are eligible for the end-of-series raffle at the final event valued at 5 grand in prizes.

  • Which distance should I ride?

Sign up for any distance and before the event. If you want to ride longer, let us know before the event. We time your progress for safety and competition, so ride strong, and if you want to be scored overall, stick with long or short routes. Please note that the Oregon Gran Fondo, the Adventure Route, and Gran Fondo count as long routes for scoring, as well as Sasquatch Duro with the Monster Squatch and Big Squatch.

Also, note the Mini-gravel does not count towards the points competition.

In the end, we love people who ride bikes!

  • What is the suggested type of bike to ride at an Oregon Triple Crown Event?

Gravel Bikes rule the scene with 38-42 MM tires and a spirit of adventure. We have a fair share of hardtail mountain bikes that tend to fly downhill at warp speed.

  • What happens if I get hurt prior to the OTC Series?

First off, injuries happen, and if you pre-purchase third-party insurance from Bike Reg and Allianz, you are covered in many cases. Please check the fine print when registering. We do accept ten injury transfers to push to the next season. Please note that until Monday of the event week, we can transfer your entry to anyone through Bike reg for 10.00, so make sure you have friends.

  • What food choices are available at each event with my 12.00 Food Voucher?

To name a few, plus local establishments.

    • May 6th Patty Mac's BBQ and Cowgirl Cookn
    • May 7th Cowgirl Cookn and Drift Inn
    • June 3rd Cowgirl Cookn and local resturants
    • June 25th Multiple Food carts at Seven Feathers  Casino Resort
    • July 29th Cowgirl Cookn and HWY 58 Burger
  • Who signs up for an Oregon Triple Crown Event?

Anyone that is a Cycling Enthusiast and has enough training to ride 30-100 miles of mixed surfaces. We love new cyclists, but if you are brand new and lack fitness make sure to put some time in prior to signing up.

  • What can I win by winning or placing?

Each event, regardless of signing up for a Series pass, has awards for 11 age groups and the top 3 per event.

For the Series (from our results page)

Your overall score for the Short or Long courses is independent of each other and for those that have signed up for the OTC 3 event pass, 5 events or ala cart.

Finish any three short or long, and we will score you.

Points 100,99,98 ETC for Oregon Triple Crowners only, with the final event weighted at 1.5 points or 150 for first place at Sasquatch Duro.

Finish any three regardless of whether distance grants you the Pactimo jersey after you sign up for the Pass.

  • What is the most popular tire size?

    38's or 40MM.

Really depends on your skill and abilities.

Oregon Gran Fondo 28-32's for the two road routes

  • What are the best places to stay at each event?

    Plenty!

Camping for your under 24 ft vehicle exists at the Sasquatch Duro Friday Night and the Oregon Gran Fondo. Tent options as well at Greenwaters Park in Oakridge or Bohemia Park in Cottage Grove.

KOA has an excellent site at the Oregon Coast Gravel Epic in Waldport, plus so many choices for the first weekend of the OTC on the Oregon Coast.

VRBO, Hotel or other, just make sure to check cancelation policies and bring a friend or partner to enjoy the local happenings while you ride for 3-8 hrs!

  • Aid Stations

We proudly serve Hammer Nutrition products such as Heed and Hammer Gel. Our aid stations serve up various foods, including local fruits when in season, including local bakery items as well.

  • Are Ebikes allowed?

Currently, we allow Ebikes for the Mini-Gravel Loop at the Oregon Gran Fondo and Little Squatch route for the Sasquatch Duro.

  • Does the Oregon Triple Crown have time cutoff's

Yes, we have time cut-offs for each event for your safety and the safety of the event volunteers. What is unique about the OTC is that if it is not your day, you can always ride shorter by taking a shorter route. If you do this, please let the next aid station know, place a special sticker on your plate, and let the finish line timing crew know.

The Oregon Coast Gravel Epic is a Gravel Grinder consisting of 65% pure logging roads that are unpaved and the other 35% smooth pavement left over from decades of active logging that still exists to this day.

This endurance event on the first weekend in May showcases the raw beauty of ancient Siuslaw National Forests and some of its seriously stout hills. At 60 miles long with 6677 ft of climbing, the Abomination route more than lives up to its name and will take 3.5-7hrs for most.

The Son of Abomination is shorter at 37 miles; it is still physically demanding with 3,740 ft of climbing and 3-4 hrs of riding and just as amazing without quite as many hills.

This event is being produced in cooperation with the communities of Waldport and Yachats on the central Oregon Coast and with the support of The Peoples Coast and will highlight the natural beauty of rural Oregon coastal communities.
