GRAVEL CYCLING 101

  • 1. What is gravel cycling?

Gravel Cycling is taking any bike and riding off the pavement, primarily on gravel roads. Many of the roads in Oregon were either paved for logging or built up with a solid base and gravel for commerce, and now recreation on public and some private land where allowed. Explore more!

  • 2. Can anyone participate?

Yes, anyone with a passion for connecting to others who enjoy the outdoors is a perfect fit for the sport and our events! This does require a bit of training to take on some pre-season effort to be strong enough to ride the 30-40 miles on the shorter loops we offer.

    You can do this!

  • Is the Oregon Gran Fondo included in the Oregon Triple Crown Series?

    Yes!

The Oregon Gran Fondo is primarily a Road bike event with amazing roads, voted top 10 in America for its natural beauty. Two road routes are offered along with  one Adventure Route with two sections of gravel or 15% of the loop for a adventure to remember!

Suggested Tire size 32 MM road, 35 MM Gravel

  • 3. What type of bike is best for the Oregon Triple Crown?

The latest gravel bikes since 2020 offer both disk brakes and also as newer versions are being offered wider clearance for the fork and chainstays for larger tires. A good hardtail mountain bike works well for those that have that as an option.

Please note the Oregon Gran Fondo is also in the Oregon Triple Crown Series.

  • 4. Will I get lost while riding at an Oregon Triple Crown Event?

The short answer is no, as we mark the routes every 5 miles with mile markers on the longest course and offer online tools to use with your Garmin or wahoo device to load the route for navigation. 99% or more stay on track each year

  • 5. What makes the Oregon Triple Crown Events Special?

Most people love to set goals to motivate themselves, and whether you simply ride in one event or sign up for the 3 events or 5-event Oregon Triple Crown series and do the long or short routes for competition all series long, or simply are finishing to receive a custom Pactimo Jersey each event will welcome you to do your best and leave you a bit tired and full of cycling joy.
