Real West Gravel  PRESENTED BY:

USWE Official Hydration Packs Sponsor.

The USWE hydration packs changed the game of hydration for MTB marathon a few years ago and for the last few years also changed the hydration for Gravel Riding.

The USWE packs makes you hydrate safely without letting go of the bars to reach for the bottles.

The aero design actually makes you faster (!). The patented design is called NoDancingMonkey, because that is what the packs provide. A smooth stable, aerodynamic ride without any movement on your back.

Register and look for a  link in your conformation email to save big on your next USWE hydration pack.

FAQS

Here are answers to some common questions about Real West Gravel

  • What is Gravel Cycling?

Gravel cycling refers to biking on roads that are primarily made of gravel and are situated off the pavement. In Oregon, several roads were initially constructed for logging and commerce purposes, having a sturdy foundation and a layer of gravel on top. Nowadays, these roads are employed for recreational activities on both public and private lands. Therefore, if you wish to explore more, you may want to give gravel cycling a try.

  • Can anyone Participate in Real West Gravel?

"Anyone who has a passion for connecting with fellow cyclists can participate in our events. However, it is important to note that the sport requires a certain level of physical fitness, and riders need to engage in some pre-season training to ensure they are strong enough to complete the 50-mile shorter loop that we offer for this event and 3-6 hrs of effort."

We do have a cut-off of 1:45 pm for the Long Route Mile 35 or 9.3 MPH

    You can do this!.

  • Who is the host lodging for this event?

Fun times are ahead for two fantastic events in the area with Echo Red to Red and Real West Gravel.

Bragging rights for the fastest state as we compile any long course racers' time from Echo Red to Red Day 1 and Real West Gravel Day 2 for bragging rights for the season.

All racers participate in the race on the longest routes each day. If you are among the top three fastest men and women from your state, you will be granted free entry to next year's event, from winning Echo Red to Red or Real West Gravel.

More than that, Day 1's State time will be carried over to Day 2, and after Real West Gravel, an overall State will be awarded champion status. Who will take home the custom award for the Men or the women? The riders can decide who led the way, and good luck to all!

    The Rules

All Long Course Riders are grouped in this State Competition based on their home-state affiliation.

The fastest 3 Men and fastest 3 Women riders from the same state will have their finish times combined for a cumulative time and placing.

The racers that make up the team for the winning state will be awarded free entry to next year's event for Echo Red to Red and Real West Gravel.

Cumulative times from Echo Red to Red will carry over to Real West as State cumulative time.

Any rider who places as part of the winning state competition at Echo will get a call-up at Real West Gravel if they are racing on Day 2 in Pendleton.

Champion awards for Fastest State 2024 will be awarded for men and women riders based on the total cumulative state time of the top 3 riders for both days.

  • What Type of Bike and Tire Size is recommended?

The latest gravel bikes since 2020 offer both disk brakes and also as newer versions are being offered wider clearance for the fork and chainstays for larger tires. A good hardtail mountain bike works well for those that have that as an option.

35MM Tires with file tread work, 38's or larger would be more comfortable. A few chunky areas exist, but not too many overall.

    94% gravel for both loops!

  • How can I volunteer?
